Can a 540 PTO tractor run a 1000 PTO implement?
You definitely cannot run a 540 baler with a 1000 pto tractor. You will tear it up as you would be trying to turn it twice as fast. Also the 100 pto has a different spline than the 540 so that would be a problem.
What rpm do you run 1000 PTO at?
1950 rpm
1750 rpm—540E and 1000E PTO. 1950 rpm—540 and 1000 PTO.
What rpm should you run a 540 PTO?
When operated at full recommended speed, a PTO shaft will rotate clockwise at 540 revolutions per minute (rpm), which equals 9 revolutions per second, or at 1,000 rpm (16.7 revolutions per second). As shown in the Table 1, a 540 rpm shaft travels 7.1 feet per second, while a 1,000 rpm shaft turns 13.1 feet per second.
What is the difference between a 540 PTO and a 1000 PTO?
100 horsepower is about the practical limit for 540 rpm. On many implements where they offer both, the 1000 rpm drivelines are sized smaller, yet still transmit as much power as the 540 drivelines, because they are turning faster, and have more gear reduction at the implement gearbox.
What size is small 1000 PTO?

How many splines are on a 1000 rpm PTO?
A 1000 rpm PTO shaft may have 20 or 21 splines or teeth. The faster the PTO speed, the more teeth that are used to make the PTO connection between the tractor and the implement. PTO Sizes: PTO stub shaft diameter for a 540 rpm shaft is 1 3/8 inch. The 1000 rpm stub shaft with 21 splines or teeth is 1 3/8 inch.
Why is PTO 1000 rpm?
1000-rpm PTO, for such applications as grain carts, rotavators, and silage choppers. Use the 35-mm (1-3/8-in.) 1000-rpm PTO shaft on implements requiring less than 150 PTO hp, such as manure spreaders and rotary cutters….

| 540/540E/1000-rpm | 540E (1723 rpm) |
Is PTO rpm the same as engine rpm?
PTO RPM = Engine RPM divided by 2.75. Max engine speed is supposed to be 2200 RPM. 3/4’s of 2200 RPM is 1650 RPM.
What RPM should I run my tractor at?
If you are in high range and the RPMs low but the hydros are groaning you’re in the wrong gear or need more Rs. If your BH isn’t taking the bite it should and you’re at 2000 RPMs, try 2200 and see if it is enough, if not, 2400 is a nice round number…
