What is cross bonding of cables?
Cross-bonding is a method of connecting cable conductors. Special joints allow to cross return conductors between phases in order to minimize losses.
What is the effect of bonding the cable?
If the cable sheath of two single core cable system is bonded at both the ends then the induced voltage will give rise to a circulating current. This circulating current (known as sheath circuit current) will complete its circuit through the sheath of one cable to another and will contribute to sheath losses.
Should cable tray be bonded?
If the tray is an exposed conductive part it requires earthing. If the tray is and extraneous conductive part it requires bonding. If the tray is neither of the above it requires neither earthing nor bonding.
Can you join earth bonding cable?
Yes, you can. It does not have to be continuous. You may even use other parts, except a gas pipe, as a bonding conductor.
Do you need cross bonding?
If you have MDPE as your supply, and copper afterwards, strictly speaking you do not need to main bond, but the NICEIC still prefer you to do so, and most sparks still will. Cross bonding under the boiler was never required in the 16th, and certainly not in the 17th.
Why is cable Armour earthed?
Whilst the primary function of the metallic armouring of an armoured cable is to provide overall strength, it may be used as a circuit protective conductor (cpc), main protective bonding conductor or, where practicable, an earthing conductor.
What are the possible causes of cable fault Mcq?
absence of harmonics.
Does cable ladder need to be earthed?
The cable ladder generally used is metal, and as such is considered a wiring enclosure which may become live, requiring grounding. Earthing of the cable ladder is important and is also a requirement of The Wiring Rules, AS 3000.
Is Earth bonding still required?
Supplementary equipotential bonding (between waste pipes, metallic service pipes and earth connections of bathroom equipment) is no longer required if, and only if, the main bonding between metal service pipes can be proved to be continuous.
Can Earth bonding be outside?
Main bonding connections may also be made outside the building, for example where a semi-enclosed gas meter box is installed outside and it is not possible to install a bond to the gas installation pipework indoors. Main earthing terminal – Where earthing and bonding conductors are connected together.
Do you have to bond plastic water pipes?
If the pipes are made of plastic, they do not need to be main bonded. If the incoming pipes are made of plastic, but the pipes within the electrical installation are made of metal, the main bonding must be carried out.
