What is NGR staining?
Solar Lux NGR Dye Stain is an alcohol based dye. Most water based stains produce a lovely color, but they also raise the wood’s grain. NGR stands for Non Grain Raising. The pigments in the dye are so tiny that they are absorbed into the wood and become a part of it.
Is Minwax a dye based stain?
You can do this test with all brands of stain. My experience with Minwax stains is that cherry contains only pigment. Golden oak and puritan pine contain only dye. All the rest I’ve tested contain both pigment and dye.
