Are Shimano cassettes better than SRAM?
I have run a pretty wide mix of components over the years, and IMO a Shimano cassette shifts faster, smoother, and runs quieter even on an otherwise all SRAM system. Having said that, the SRAM cassettes work well enough that I never worry about it or barely even notice the difference.
Does a better cassette make a difference?
not really. because the weight is near the axle is not as pronounced as in a wheel rim. However lighter is lighter and these days a good place to shave grams and the expense of dollars. I will say XX1 cassettes are a work of art.
Does SRAM cassette work with Shimano?

Why are SRAM cassettes so expensive?
The SRAM cassettes are lighter because of the lack of spiders connecting the different cogs, and the smaller driver. That’s why they are so expensive too. and at least the highest end stuff (like eagle, possibly some of the 11spd stuff) is machined from a single piece, and isn’t an assembly component.
