In Left 4 Dead 2, I press Shift+Tab to bring up the Steam menu. Under voice settings, it does show the correct microphone, and if I click to test the mic, it works. I can talk and see the meter go up, and hear my voice echoed through the headset.

Which is better l4d vs l4d2?
l4d2 is superior, it even has l4d1 survivors and maps. Left 4 Dead feels much better and has a lot more overall polish, makes it more fun to play for me. It also has fewer instances of the AI Director actively trying to screw you over. Left 4 Dead 2 has more stuff, but in many cases it’s quite sloppy.
Is L4D2 harder than l4d?
Overall, L4D1 is easier but it’s still harder in some ways if you’ve become used to tactics or equipment only in L4D2.
