Frenectomy refers to the procedure that removes the connective tissue (called the frenum) at either the top or the bottom of the mouth, specifically under the tongue or the upper gums.

A laser frenectomy can be performed with a soft-tissue laser, such as CO2, Diode (hot tip), Nd:YAG, and Er:YAG. The CO2 laser is the ideal laser for both cutting and coagulating soft tissue during a frenectomy.
