Can I use Mapei type 1 over AquaDefense?
Can I use mastic or a premixed tile adhesive over Mapelastic® AquaDefense? Ready-to-use tile adhesives, such as MAPEI’s Type 1™ mastic and Premium Mortar for tile and stone, require a porous substrate to cure properly. They should not be installed over waterproofing membranes.

Yes, MAPEI’s Type 1 can be used to set tile over clean drywall. All areas with wall mud (gypsum-based patching compounds), must be primed with MAPEI’s Primer T™ before application of Type 1.
