Our traditional BOOK IT! Program is still going strong after 30+ years. We welcome teachers to enroll their PreK through sixth-grade classrooms for our FREE reading incentive program. We offer two ways to participate, paper or digital.
Is BookIt still a thing?
BookIt abruptly shut its doors and fired its customer service staff in March, suspending payments to hotels and resorts, including for some people already on vacation.
When did Pizza Hut Book It program end?
The program runs October 1 through March 31 each year.
What was BookIt?
Book It! was a reading program developed in the mid-’80s that rewarded children who read a certain number of books with pizza. By the ’90s, the program had become a national phenomenon and was a regular part of classroom curriculums where kids could earn pizza (or even a pizza party) if they hit certain goals.
When did book it start?
Created in 1984, Book It! aims to give children a love of reading. An estimated 14 million students in kindergarten through sixth grade participate every year.

BOOK IT! motivates children to read by rewarding their reading accomplishments with praise, recognition and pizza. The program is simple, flexible, fun and free to use in your classroom! BOOK IT! was created in 1984 and currently reaches more than 14 million students and 37,000 PreK-6 grade schools annually.
How do you get pizza from book it?
Simple: Set a reading goal for each child in your class from October through March. When they meet their monthly goal, you get to recognize them with a Reading Award Certiļ¬cate, good for a free one-topping Personal Pan Pizza. Flexible: You can set goals based on your students’ reading ability.
When did Pizza Hut BOOK IT?
In 1989, Pizza Hut and the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress created National Young Readers Day to highlight the importance of reading. Schools across the nation and millions of children participate in the six-month program each school year.
How is It killed in the book?
Weakened, IT runs away to tend its wounds and is chased by Bill, Richie, and Ben, who stays behind to destroy the eggs laid by IT. Bill then fights his way inside IT’s body to get to its heart, crushing it and finally killing the creature.
